The Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race & Rally is proudly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia together with the Ambon City Government. The people of Ambon City, and especially the Village of Amahusu, are very proud to share their culture and friendship with all the participants.

This year’s Welcoming Ceremony began with an early start for the participants arriving at the Race Office for transportation by bus to Ambon City under the escort of the Tourist Police. The busses made a stop outside Harlim’s restaurant where many of the yachties dived into for an early start to the Bintang. Awaiting the crowd was 150 “Becak-Becak” and their drivers for a “Becak Wisata Kota Ambon” – Becak Tour of the City of Ambon. The “becak” tour arrived at the Pattimura Square for the official Welcome Ceremony by the Mayor of Ambon City, Bapak Papilaya.
Fantasia, Walk on the Wildside and Freedom Express, the first three yachts over the finishing line, were awarded exquisite plaques from the Ambon City and a beautiful scarf “kaintenun”, handmade in SE Maluku, by Bapak Papilaya. Each of the other Skippers were also presented with a “kainteun”.
As an appreciation of the welcome and friendship to the people of the village of Amahusu, the participants donated educational books and posters to each of the three Primary Schools of Amahusu. To receive these gifts were the Principals and three students from each school. This special presentation was graciously accepted by the community.
Dancing, music, much laughter and good food followed where the participants mingled and shared their stories and adventures.
