Sue Sea is a Marten 49 designed by Reichel/Pugh, built in Sydney for owner Brian Todd, to meet his requirements for a truly all-purpose competitive race boat and comfortable easily sailed cruiser. Construction is all carbon fibre and was launched in November 2008.

Why are you entering the Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race & Rally?

The crew of Sue Sea enjoyed racing in 2011 Fremantle to Bali Yacht Race and is now looking forward to cruising in The Darwin to Ambon Rally. After the rally, Sue Sea is planning to cruise in Indonesia and the west of Australia before returning to her home port of Fremantle

Although Sue Sea is a relatively new boat, she has already clocked up well over 20,000 sea miles and has completed one and a half circumnavigations of Australia, competing in races on the west and east coast including:

  • 2008 Club Marine Cruise to Hobart
  • 2009 Audi Hamilton Island Race Week
  • 2009 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race (finishing 37th over the line)
  • 2010 Audi Victoria Race Week IRC 0
  • 2011 Fremantle to Bali Yacht Race

How many crew do you have?

The racing crew is 12, but with all the cruising gear on board we will sail (cruise or race) with 8.

How would you describe your boat, racer, cruiser or live-aboard home?

At the moment we can’t decide if Sue Sea is racing yacht cruising, or a cruising yacht racing!!
